Holy crap, Djokovic is defaulted for hitting a linesperson with a ball.  This is a prime opportunity for someone to win with Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic out.

I like Thiem to win it now. He's not consistent on hard courts, but his best is better than anyone else's.

I really think Brady is going to win for the women, with Osaka my second choice and Serena third.

Re: 2020 U.S. Open: picking during a pandemic

My lack of confidence in Clijsters' health saved me when I made Mertens as my substitute pick and she won me 12.5 points, making the difference in a close contest.

You had a whopping five men's quarterfinalists to my three, but Brady and Mertens put me over the top. Neither of us hit got the biggest losers (Schwartzman for the men, Pliskova for the women), with both of yours reaching the final, Osaka winning the tournament and Zverev coming awfully close. I had Dimitrov, who lostin the second round, and Kvitova, who lost in the fourth round.

Men's quarterfinalists: 22.5
Men's semifinalists: 10
Men's finalists: 5
Women's quarterfinalists: 30
Women's semifinalists: 10

Total: 77.5

Men's quarterfinalists; 37.5
Men's semifinalists; 5
Men's finalists; 5
Women's quarterfinalists: 22.5

Total: 70
